Combat Zone: Winning the Business War. That was the name of the 45-minute webinar I watched and listened to the other day. A guy by the name of Mark Stevens presented. Mark talked about making your business BETTER. It was fantastic. He said that if your customer LIKES your product or service…you’ll be out of business soon. That got my attention. He said people can’t just LIKE your product or service…they have to LOVE it. Wow. Have you ever thought about your customer in that way? If you’d like to hear more about what Mark Stevens has to say go to http://www.msco.com
The information I absorbed in 45 minutes made me want to share this idea with you. A lot of businesses advertise so they can attract more customers than they lose. And the scales are barely tipped in their favor. But if you “attacked” your own business (Mark’s words), and got creative on making your customers LOVE you…that’s how great things can happen for you. And if you need ideas on making your customers love you, then get some help. Just don’t take your customers for granted. We’re all guilty of it at least once in our lives. But that doesn’t mean we can’t turn over a new leaf and start doing things better.
Sometimes when a company attracts a new customer and makes a sale, they celebrate and see it as the end…and then start all over looking for a new customer. But that new customer should now start being pelted and barraged with care and attention. Your customers are your biggest asset. So, you have to figure out how to make them love you.
But wait…I hear so much whining about the economy or blaming it on the President. When my sales plunged late 08 and early 09 (significantly), I didn’t blame the economy. I blamed MYSELF for not being proactive prior to that, and for being lazy.
Here’s one other point that Mark Stevens made that I need to share with you -
People ask, “What should I do in this economy?” Answer: Try something new. Break some rules. It’s ok to break rules and not follow someone else’s conventional wisdom. Obey the law…not the rules. Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, Henry Ford, Andrew Carnegie – these are people that do not or did not follow conventional business rules.
Major point: If the size of the whole “pie” in your industry has shrunk…TAKE A BIGGER PIECE. (click the link to get the e-book on Amazon)
Good advertising can make your piece of the pie bigger. Innovation will help. And of course, finding ways to make your customers LOVE you is priceless. The companies that are dramatically DOWN right now…are the ones that got complacent with their customers just LIKING them.
Have a “bigger slice” kind of day!
It’s easy to write advertisements. Writing good ones is another story though. Want advertising that works? It all starts with your message. What can you say in your marketing and advertising that will cause someone to start remembering who you are? How can you get someone to be inspired to BUY from you? It all hinges on saying something in your advertising in which someone would take notice and actually give a shit about.
